Lisa Hayim, RD of The Well Necessities
Lisa Hayim is the type of gal who makes you feel comfortable immediately. She's so real that its nearly impossible to feel like a stranger, even if you just met her. Lisa is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and founder of The Well Necessities, providing simple nutrition education and the tools to mindfully eat (and enjoy food!) to ultimately elevate your well being.
What was the inspiration behind The Well Necessities?
I wish i could say it was a well thought out idea, but like most things in my life, I just jumped right in. In grad school, I needed a landing place to put all my information. But it has evolved as I have but is still rooted in the basics - simple information (5 ingredient recipes, nutrition info, etc) for everyone.
TWN is now a private practice in NYC and a wellness blog that focuses on mindful eating, positive vibes, and timeless nutrition education.
What do you love most about your job?
People. I get to talk to people all day. Whether its my clients, brands, or instagram friends, I am always communicating with people. Loneliness is a rare feeling these days.
What do you love most about yourself?
I love that I can look back on the past decade and see growth. As I approach 30, I realize I've been through life - I've had less than $100 dollars in my bank account and my heart shattered into a million pieces. I've also worked my ass (can i say that here?) to get my Master's in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology from Columbia, an Ivy league school (I say that not to brag - but because I'm actually not that smart - I just work REALLY hard) and create a business that not only love, but that supports me financially. I'm living on my own two feet on my own terms and that is some damn good independence!
Take us through a day in the life of Lisa. We want all the deets!
Sadly (or fortunately!), there is no typical day. Juggling a blog/website and a private practice comes with unexpected events, cancellations, and content creation days. I threw in the fortunately though because its actually what I love. I love getting lost in hours of work that never feels like work, and I love unexpected days I work from home and get to do a little bit more ME time. Dinners are usually entertaining because that's where Evan, my boyfriend comes in. He works very hard as a doctor and rarely eats during the day because of the nature of his job. Dinner means party time and is my favorite time of day because it means the day is over, I survived, and it's time to recenter my energy toward another being that I care for.
What's on the horizon for TWN in 2018?
We just opened TWN HQ, which is a dream for me. This is where we see clients one-on-one and where a lot of the content creation goes down. In creating it, I dreamt of a community space and I hope our main room grows into that - with more events and people coming together being raw and honest. I am also working on an online course (hopefully out by spring 2018). I've got a lot of other ideas, but we've got to keep some things secret :)
And lastly, what makes you feel like a kween?
I feel most like a kween when am I able to articulate how I feel. Probably not what you expected, but I'm really proud of my mindful journey. Being able to stop, be introspective and modulate my behavior/language makes me feel like a sexy woman! I used to hate my feelings - the bad ones at least. I feel like a real KWEEN when I can watch my feelings without judgement. I also feel like a kween with a glass of pinot grigio in my hand.. in an unsexy terry cloth robe. With knee high socks. And no brushed hair. And chocolate near by. Balance, right?
