Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I was born and raised in New Zealand, more specifically in a small town called KatiKati, we lived on an avocado orchard, and in my spare time I climbed trees, rode horses and got up to mischief with my friends and siblings. We later moved to the ‘big city’ (Auckland) where I spent my teenage years.

When I was 18 I realized I wanted something more than what New Zealand could offer me. I wanted to explore what the world had to offer. So, step 1 was jumping ship to our neighboring country - Australia. I made the move on my own and that ended up being my home base for the next 10 years.

I got into the fashion industry and by age 21 was working as a buyer for Guess Australia. At the time this was my dream job, but I always wanted to fulfill my dream of being a model. So I quit my stable job to pursue my dreams and well, long story short, ended up living my dream for the next 3 years working as a model around the world.

I would come back to Melbourne for short stints and then get the urge to go traveling again. After 3 years the lifestyle wore on me and I craved stability. I wanted a home that was mine, I missed my friends and the physical & mental stress was starting to wear on my health.

I made the conscious decision to close that chapter of my life and look forward to the next. After roughly 1 1/2 years in Australia I got itchy feet again so I came to visit my sister in LA where I ended up falling in love with the city and a man. (my now husband)

The rest is what they call history :P

What was the inspiration behind your account?

It all started with the desire to create healthy recipes for myself. While being in the modeling world I picked up on some healthy food tips off my roommate from Estonia. Watching her make banana ice-cream one day in our tiny Hong Kong apartment I was shocked at the mere simplicity of it and the result being so similar to the store bought stuff.

Growing up, I had always enjoyed making food, but the health aspect didn’t kick in until my knowledge on how much our diet can effect our wellbeing, grew. Not to mention my body was starting to react to the dairy and gluten I was eating on the reg.  Coming from someone who has a huge sweet tooth I took to the internet and my kitchen and started getting creative with different recipes to satisfy my cravings without hurting my insides.

The more I learnt and the more I created, the more I wanted to share with the world. I felt every one had to know that dessert doesn’t have to be full of the conventional flour, sugar and butter in order to taste delicious. And so that is where it started, with an account that was initially called V.Cleanfoods.

I sometimes look back at the images I posted 5 years back and chuckle to myself. My style of writing and photography has definitely evolved over the years, but I think thats just a testament to the fact that we as humans are ever changing and our style along with it.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to start their own brand?

In the words of Nike. Just Do It.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment or the perfect design of your website to launch. Do it for the right reasons, always stay true to who you are, don’t conform to what you think others may want from you and the most important part - work at it every. single. day.

What do you love most about your job?

There are many things I love about being a blogger. But what trumps them all is the fact that I don’t have anyone to answer to but myself. I’m not one to be told what to do, so having a platform that is mine and mine only is truly special to me.

I’m also so thankful for the connections I’ve made through Instagram. Be it friends I’ve met through social media driven events, or even people that have reached out to me going through a similar journey and just looking for advice or an ear. I absolutely love the fact that I can connect with people I would otherwise never have crossed paths with in a digital free world.

What do you love most about yourself?

The first thing that comes to mind here is the nickname my husband gives me - ‘The Swiss Army Knife of Wives.'

Meaning that I’m good at most things I set my mind to. I'm a pretty independent person so with that I don’t tend to rely on others for help. That could be seen as a flaw but I love that if there’s something I want to know or learn, I will make a point to do it. I call it being self sufficient. Whether it digital or in real life there aren’t many things I can’t figure out for myself.

Take us through a day in the life of Saphira. We want all the deets!

Given the nature of what I do, my days can vary a lot. But here’s a typical day for me.

I get up each morning between 6:45 and 7:30 depending how I’m feeling and my schedule for that day. I keep a 32oz jar of lemon water next to my bed each night and will drink the whole thing as soon as I am up.

Next comes the matcha. I recently (5 days ago) quit coffee and already feeling so much better for it. I will make my concoction of matcha and superfood potions. The mix usually goes like this - hot water, 1 tsp matcha, 1 tsp e3 live, vanilla, unsweetened almond milk, collagen powder, and an adaptogen like lions mane or cordyceps. I'll blend it up and  either enjoy it on the rooftop while I take 30 mins to stretch or on the way to the gym or a workout class.

I like to do my exercise first thing in the morning so it’s done and dusted for the day and I can focus on my business for the rest of it.

After I workout ill come home, eat breakfast with my husband, usually around 10am. Breakfast for me is more often than not, eggs veggies and some healthy fats like avo or smoked salmon.

I still model here and there so if I have a casting or job that will usually take up most of the day. I am also a personal chef so that takes up around 3 days per week where ill shop and cook for clients in their home. In between all that I spend my time in my kitchen working on recipes & content for clients, shooting food or sitting in front of my computer writing up recipes & content for my blog & responding to emails.

I’m also launching a health food company towards the end of the year, (which I’m so excited for) so there’s been a lot of conference calls with the team, design work and research that I’ve been working on this year.

And lastly, what makes you feel like a kween?

When I'm in a circuit training class like Training Mate and can hold my own next to all the muscly males that frequent there. I absolutely love how strong it makes me feel, both physically and mentally. I mean, if I can keep up with these guys in this environment then there’s not a lot I couldn’t handle outside of those 4 brick walls.
